5 Reasons I Love Audiobooks

With NetGalley announcing it’ll be coming out with audiobook formatted ARCs, I thought there couldn’t be a better time to talk about all the reasons why I love, love, LOVE audiobooks. So, without much further ado, here are my top 5 reasons why I love listening to audiobooks:

1. The ~Experience~

If you’ve never listened to an audiobook, you’ll probably be (pleasantly) surprised by the production value audiobooks have. Nowadays almost all audiobooks are extremely high quality – making them a joy to listen to!

It’s not just some random person reading your favorite stories in a monotone voice… in fact, it’s quite the opposite. Audiobook narrators are very talented, and often times do different voices for each character, which I find immensely enjoyable. It really brings the stories to life (and helps to distinguish between which character is talking πŸ˜…)!

In fact, some audiobooks are narrated by famous stars, so you might wind up hearing a familiar voice!

2. Multitasking

Audiobooks are great for when you’ve got a lot on your plate but still crave reading a good book. In fact, they’re ideal for those circumstances! I love listening to an audiobook while doing my household chores and monotonous tasks such as washing dishes or folding laundry. When your hands are busy but your ears are free, an audiobook is the perfect solution.

It also helps you get through more books, because you’re spending even MORE time reading (and really, isn’t that a book lovers’ Life Goalℒ️?!)

3. Laying Down 😴

The biggest struggle a book lover has? You know the one. When you want to ~read~ but you also want to lie down (preferably with your eyes closed) because you’re tired? So you wind up holding your book up above you all awkward-like? Yeah, struggle no more! Because audiobooks are here to rescue you!

One of my favorite things about audiobooks is that you can lay down while listening to them. Especially before bed. It reminds me of back when my parents used to read me to sleep as a little kid. Super comforting, even as a full-fledged adult. ❀️

4. Added Availability

I’m a huge supported of my local library, and I think there’s a good chance you likely are too. Sometimes there are just Too Many Books To Read, and – unfortunately! – you can’t buy them all. Well, the biggest downside to borrowing from the library is book availability. Sometimes you’re really hankering to read a certain book, but when you go to put it on hold you’re told it won’t be available for 20 WEEKS or something ridiculous like that. 😱

One trick I’ve figured out is that sometimes the audiobook format of those books you’re so keen to read have less holds on them than their regular book format. Meaning that you get them much sooner! Truly, one of Life’s Great Book Blessings. πŸ‘Ό πŸ™

5. All The Books

Now, I know not everyone is like this, but *I’m* the type of person who always seems to find herself with more than one book on the go at the same time… but that can get confusing.

One of my tricks to managing more than one book at once is to read each of my ongoing books in different formats. So that means if I’m reading three books I likely have one physical copy, one ebook on my tablet, and that’s right, one audiobook to play on my headphones! I find it just keeps everything more identifiably separate in my mind if each story has it’s own format.

✨ BONUS ✨

My personal recommendation if you’re looking for an audiobook to read is to check out the autobiographies section! Almost all autobiographies are actually narrated by their author, and I mean really, what could be better than that? You get to hear the book exactly how the author intended it. No if’s, and’s, or but’s.

Honestly, I was never really a fan of autobiographies until I found them in audiobook format. I used to think they were a little dull, but now when I listen to one it’s like my favorite actor, political figure or comedian is talking directly to me. It’s awesome!

What about you? Are you a big fan of audiobooks?
