June 2022: Monthly Wrap-Up

Another day, another monthly wrap-up! I hope you all had a lovely June – and will have an even better July! ☀️

For me, June was the last month of the school year. I somehow managed to finish it off without too much stress – I genuinely don’t know how I did it! – and now it’s officially summer and I am PUMPED. 😎

My parents are visiting, which has been really nice since they live quite far away, and it’s been a number of years since the last time they stayed with me. It’s been fun doing lots of touristy things, sharing a few of my favourite parts of my city, and the life I’ve created here with them. ❤️

Really, I’m just super excited that it’s finally summer vacation! While I’ll have to spend most of my time this summer inside (again 🙈) studying for my professional examination, I’m looking forward to the change in pace, and to sneak in a few good reads that aren’t my study materials. 😉

A Slow Fire Burning by Paula Hawkins | Honestly this one was super disappointing, especially after reading and enjoying The Girl on the Train. It seriously dragged and the twist wasn’t even a little bit surprising. I’d give this one a pass. 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Hating Game by Sally Thorne | This one was very fun and I get why it’s so popular! I did find it odd how often Lucy referred to herself as being small though lol… As someone who is literally 5 feet I almost never think about the fact I’m so much shorter than everyone else. 😂

First Kill by V. E. Schwab | The perfect bite-sized story. (Get it?! 😉) Check out my comparison between the book and tv show here.

Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley | I really enjoyed this one and highly recommend it! Definitely one of my favourite reads of the year, and a must-read. Honestly, it has everything: crime, mystery, hockey, science and romance. The inclusion of Ojibwe culture was particularly wonderfully done.

Next Month’s TBR:

My best friend is begging me to read and watch Pachinko by Min Jin Lee because she has no one else to discuss it with and she is having all the feels, so I’ll be finally doing that this next month! I’m also hoping to jump into The Priority of the Orange Tree by Samantha Shannon because there is really no better time to read such a massive fantasy novel than during the summer. ☀️
