Reflections & Resolutions: 2024 Yearly Wrap-Up

I had a good 2024. Every year comes with its own challenges and rewards. But I think the rewards outweighed the challenges this past year. Some incredible things happened to me. I got married. My wife and I travelled internationally for the first time. I saw Taylor Swift in concert.

And along the way I read some really great books. I even got my wife to read a few! I think she read more books in 2024 than she did the past 5 years combined.

2024 was a year of rediscovery and exploration. I found some passions I didn’t even know I had. And rekindles others that were long dormant.

Now I’m excited to see what 2025 brings.

Reflecting on 2024:

Find enjoyment in entertainment again

At the beginning of 2024, after feeling burnt out most of 2023, I set a goal to try to find enjoyment in my entertainment again. To seek out and engage with media I found meaningful and enjoyable. I can honestly say I think I did just that. 2024 was one of the best years of reading for me. Maybe not in the total number of books I read, but definitely in my level of enjoyment. Many of my now all-time favorite books were found in 2024, and I’m so grateful I took the time to be intentional about reading books that brought me joy.

Find my voice again

After half a year of not posting on my blog, I was nervous to come back at the start of 2024. Since then, I think I’ve managed to be more consistent with blogging. I don’t think I’ll ever post quite as frequently as I did when I first started, but I am also not going to hold myself to that expectation. As long as I am getting enjoyment out of posting, then I plan to continue doing it – without the pressure of having to match a specific goalpost I’ve created in my mind. If that means 50 posts a year, that’s great. If it means 5, that’s all right too.

My resolution for 2025:

Be intentional

This resolution is really a continuation of my previous goal from last year. I want to be conscious of the decisions I’m making regarding to books I’m choosing to read. It doesn’t mean I need to pick specific books for certain reasons, but just that I’m being intentional about the books I’m reading and knowing why I’ve chosen them. It could be because I need something light to escape reality, or because I want to learn something new about the world around me. Either way, I want to be sure I’m picking books that fill those needs, and the best way to do that is to do it intentionally.

Build connections

While last year I set a goal around my blog writing, this year I want to set a goal on the other aspects of blogging: building connections with other bloggers. One of the best surprises of starting my book blog was getting to connect with so many other people who are as in love with reading as I am. Since then, my life has gotten busy, and I haven’t had the time to keep up with others as much as I used to. Now, I feel a little like I’m blogging into the void. I miss connecting with others and getting to experience their passion for the books they’ve read and the books they want to read. In 2025, I want to work on reconnecting and rekindling my old connections, and making news ones too. Hopefully there is still a place for me in this blogosphere, even if I’ve been distant for a while.
