Mid-Year Book Freak Out Tag 2020

Thank you Chiara from Heavenly Bookish for tagging me in my first book tag! ❤️

Let’s get started…

What is the best book you have read so far in 2020?

This is a legitimately tough question because I’ve read a lot of really great books this year. But, I’d have to say The Hate U Give (THUG) by Angie Thomas was the very best. I really recommend everyone who hasn’t already read it to find themselves a copy, because it is so important, and so very relevant.

What is the best sequel you have read so far in 2020?

The best sequel I read this year was Catching Fire by Suzanne Collins! I know, I know, The Hunger Games came out literally over 10 years ago – but I never read them back then (I thought I was ~ToO cOoL~), so this year I finally read my way through them. And, no surprise, they were amazing!

What is a new release that you haven’t read yet but want to?

You Should See Me in a Crown by Lean Johnson – it’s got fabulous reviews and a queer protagonist? I’m so down for that.

What is your most anticipated release for the second half of the year?

I’m honestly not sure! I feel like I’m always trying to play catch-up and read books everyone else already has. 🤷🏻‍♀️

What was your biggest disappointing book so far?

When Katie Met Cassidy by Camille Perri – it wasn’t horrible or anything, but it was just okay.

What was your biggest surprising book so far?

Dark Places by Gillian Flynn! Surprising in both that I would enjoy something so disturbing, and also with the twist reveal at the end!

Who is your favorite new author (debut or new to you)?

Angie Thomas – I’m obsessed with her work! I’ve already gotten myself a copy of On the Come Up (a signed first-edition!!!!) and cannot wait for Concrete Rose to come out next year!

Who is your new fictional crush?

Sadly, fictional crushes just aren’t for me. 😓

Who is your newest favorite character?

She’s not that new, but since I only read the book this year, she’s new to me. Madeline Martha Mackenzie from Big Little Lies, I’m looking at you!

What books made you cry?

I bawled like a baby the entire way through What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty, would seriously recommend if you’re into sappy stories.

What is one book that made you happy?

Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han – it was the perfect conclusion to the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before series.

What is the most beautiful book you have bought or received so far this year?

My partner gifted me a copy of The Complete Novels of Jane Austen by Canterbury Classics – it’s gorgeous. 😍

What books do you need to read by the end of the year?

Everything and anything?

But seriously, I’m horrible at making concise TBR lists because I tend to read whatever book I’m in the mood for that second, and really that can change pretty often. Let’s just say I have 250+ books on my to-read shelf on Goodreads. 😅

This was so much fun! I want to tag Hayley from Haylz and Books, Kerri from Kerri McBookNerd, Alana from Dream Come Review and anyone else who’s interested in participating! (But please don’t feel any pressure if you aren’t though!)

Happy reading!
